Debugging Nagios

We spent the whole day debugging "Nagios":http://www.nagios.org because of a huge performance problem in our distributed environment. It turns out the central Nagios machine was hogging over six hundred (600) nagios processes within the first thirty minutes and then swapped itself to death. We found the problem and have implemented a solution which I'll be documenting tonight and posting sometime soon.

Now imagine we'd not have had an Open Source program. How would we have proceeded then, eh?
