OpenLDAP Cosmetics
Via the Connexitor Blog I found a rant on the complexity of OpenLDAP.
In this context, a mail to the ldap (at) umich.edu mailing list I saw this morning fits like a glove:
From: Xxxxxxx YyyyyyyyyyDate: Wed, 15 Nov 2006 08:57:54 -0800 (PST) To: ldap (at) umich.edu Cc: freebsd-ports (at) freebsd.org Subject: [ldap] I Will PAY Someone To Install OpenLDAP I've had it. I've wasted too much time on this. I will pay someone to install openldap with the env and options I want on FreeBSD 6.1. Please contact me outside of the discussion list.
I've commented on the quality of documentation of Open Source in general and of OpenLDAP in particular before.
It is a great shame, that such an incredibly good piece of software can have its reputation torn up so quickly due to "packaging" and "cosmetic" issues.

Nice follow up. Howard and I are working on a book that MAY help but it's a long ways off.
Wow! A book by The Directory Guys? Give me the ISBN number; I need that book!
I thought it was well on the way Marty?
We've got several months of writing still ahead of us. The ISBN number is 013240396X.
