The Business Case for Open Source
A good article on Open Source at InfoWorld. IMHO the most powerful driver for utilizing Open Source remains:
What happens if something happens to the software vendor? What if the vendor gets bought by its big competitor and that new owner wants nothing to do with supporting you? What if the vendor is affected by a natural disaster in some other part of the country (or world) and can no longer function?
Closed source can lock you in. Badly.

Well, as you well know, we look at what happened to the Netscape Directory Server (went to Red Hat and fell in a hole) and what's going on over at Sun (are they investing in Sun JSDS or putting all their brain cycles onto OpenDS or what?) and wonder.
