Disarmament

For the past two years I've been quite unhappy with my Nokia N70: it is quite heavy, the camera cover slides open too easily, battery life is lousy, and the worst part is that the phone's firmware is so slow, that I often miss calls because the phone appears to take too long to "wake up" and start to ring.

I've also learned that I don't use the software on these smart phones at all. Radio? what for? Games? Nope. Movie player? On that small screen? Office tools? Heh?

The only productivity tool I'd use is e-mail, but the N70 can't beat a BlackBerry.

So I'm back on a Nokia 6230, low-tech as it may be. I purchased one second-hand, installed the SIM card, typed in my SyncML details and was "online" in a few minutes.

The 6230 is fast (it actually does something when I press a key) and does all I need it to do. Call me old fashioned, sure, but I'm happy again.

You may have seen that BIC is now marketing a cell-phone together with France Telecom. You can call out on it and receive calls. Nothing else. Beautiful simplicity. It is sold here in France in the Bureaux de Tabac and in Supermarkets. €49 including 60 minutes of talking. Open the package and start phoning right-away. For petits vieux and others wary of an overload of gadgets.
