Just over the guarantee

It never fails (pun intended) to amaze me how often a device breaks just after the guarantee runs out. It is as though the manufacturer builds the stuff to break after exactly two, three or five years, depending on the type of guarantee I get.

Case in point is one of the servers we deployed some time ago throughout South-East Asia.

Three years and two months (give or take) after installation, one of the servers suffers the death of a motherboard, effectively grinding the machine to a standstill of course. As spare parts appear to be rare, time to resolution is currently, er, imprecise. What is also a bit unclear is what the maintenance contract (eh?) looks like.

Sigh.

I understand that according to the bible, PEOPLE are designed to die after 70 years ("three score + 10").
Now, they often last for another 20 or 30 years. That is actually a big problem: Who is going to finance those long retirements??
When Von Bismarck invented the first pensions in 1889 – for people over 70 – life expectancy in Prussia was 45, so the scheme cost a pittance. When Britons over 70 received 5 shillings a week from 1908, the AVERAGE Briton didn't last longer than about 50.
Now we're in the soup. We need more immigrants to finance people's golden years from 60 to 95 or so. . . . .

    The same happens here too
What's incredible is the increasing number of failure of motherborads (mainly condensers broken) even in warranty period even in very well-known brands
We have 4 IBM server (all X series): 2 on 4 with the motherboad dead at 3 years and 2 months, another one with the scsci controller dead (in warranty period). One of the first 2 had also 2 scsi hdd broken (1 in warranty period). A blood bath!
I never saw something lik this in the past.
