Jan-Piet Mens is an independent technical consultant specializing in Unix/Windows interoperability, Internet technology and integration. He started off his working life at Nixdorf Computer AG in Paderborn, Germany and then in Wiesbaden, Germany. Initially he gave courses in the proprietary Nixdorf 886x systems and then moved on to Unix and Nixdorf Targon systems. In 1988 he founded a small company in Wiesbaden which specialized in Unix and C training. In 1994 the project was abandoned and he became a freelancer. Since then, Jan-Piet has successfully completed innumerable projects.
He is proficient in all things Unix/Linux and programs in C, Perl and PHP, although he has been known to produce workable code in BASIC and in COBOL. He strongly believes Java sucks because hardware that can run such programs hasn't been developed as yet. Jan-Piet adores HTTP and XML, thinks XML-RPC is going to take over the world and strongly believes that simple technology is good technology.
He talks about and "does" technology, doesn't like politics and loves food and quiet dinner parties. His private life is centered around his daughter.
