Don't neglect security patches!

First of all, thanks to Lawrence who pointed out to me that there were links oozing out of these pages, links that I'd probably not added myself. He was right, and it should be over now.

Unfortunately, I've been ignoring software updates to this site for almost three quarters of a year now, which is why the above started happening. I've now upgraded to the latest and greatest, and hope that, apart from a few hiccups, all should be back to normal.

No more coComment

It is coComment yok for me, and I've deleted my account. Apart from a huge load of comments that suddenly went missing a few months ago (it looks like it happened during a service upgrade at coComment, but I'm only guessing), the service is too slow for my liking, and I just don't feel like bothering with it any longer.

Thank you, but no thanks.

One of the best investments I ever made was to register my surname as a dot com way back before you even knew the Internet existed. I was able to sell the name a few years later at a tremendous profit. If you are in an office environment, be warned: don't look it up now; it ain't pretty!

A registered letter (you know, by snail mail) just arrived requesting I sell my mens.de to brand called m.e.n.s.. Thanks for asking, but I am not interested.

Thank you

In 2007, this site served over 138,000 page views to 66,800 unique visitors. Most of you (55.93%) used Firefox on Windows (79.66% followed by 10.94% Linux), and you came from the US, Germany, UK and France in descending order of frequency.

Thank you for being with me.

Visitors' Operating Systems

This chart depicts the distribution of browser Operating System platforms that have visited this site in the course of the first half of 2007.

The lion share goes to Windows, followed by Linux and Mac OS/X, with a fraction of visitors having FreeBSD, Solaris and HP/UX in descending order.

I'll admit to being quite surprised as to the high percentage of Windows; I'd have thought my site would have a larger Unix/Linux share.

My Site is China Proof

greatfirewallofchina.org attempts to test whether or not a site is available from China. They don't consider the results to be fool proof, but my site is reported as

I think of it positively: less spam. ;-)

Gravatar Still Unwell

Gravatar LogoGravatar is a service that links your e-mail address with an avatar icon of your choosing. It has been gravely ill for many months, but it was supposed to be back, so I decided to give it a spin on the weekend.

Oddly, www.gravatar.com has an ugly redirect to site.gravatar.com where I'm presented with a bit of introduction and a sign up form. The site was terribly slow on Sunday afternoon, so I postponed until the next day.

I shouldn't have; this is the result.

The bit about being temporarily unavailable is not quite accurate though, but the maintainer did apologize. On March 2nd.

Because of the independence to a single site, I still think a pavatar is the better system.

Oh well, off to better things… ;-)
